We finally have the return of the King of the Ring in the WWE. Xavier Woods was the last one to call himself the King of the Ring in 2021. The King of the Ring produced had a lot of Hall of Famers to hold the crown. The tournament began on Monday Night Raw. Gunther defeated Sheamus in a hard hitting main event. Earlier in the evening, Jey Uso defeated Finn Balor and Ilja Dragunov took down Ricochet in an instant classic. It was announced that Kofi Kingston will battle Rey Mysterio in an upcoming house show. The Smackdown side of things begins tonight. It was reported that Bobby Lashley was pulled due to an injury. The big matchup will see Randy Orton facing A.J. Styles. The finals take place in Saudi Arabia at the King and Queen of the Ring. Who should become the 2024 King of the Ring?

Gunther

Gunther is one of the best wrestlers in the world today. Gunther is coming off his historic Intercontinental title reign that lasted 666 days. He lost the championship to Sami Zayn at WrestleMania in a great match. Gunther is ready to take that next step and that would be the King of the Ring. Being the king could eventually lead to him having a world title reign. Gunther is probably my first choice to leave Saudi Arabia as the new King of the Ring.

Ilja Dragunov

Ilja is my second choice to become the new King of the Ring. If Gunther is the best wrestler in the world, the Mad Dragon isn’t far behind. Ilja was just drafted to Monday Night Raw and had an amazing match with Ricochet on Monday. Dragunov was one of the greatest NXT champions ever. Having him win the King of the Ring will immediately catapult him on Monday Night Raw. It looks like he and Gunther could meet in the Finals on the Raw side. If so, get ready for a hard hitting instant classic.

L.A. Knight

L.A. Knight has been one of the most popular guys over the past year. If they’re not going to reward him with a championship, the King of the Ring is the next best thing. Knight is too popular to not be rewarded with something. Having L.A. Knight and Logan Paul feud over the United States Championship would be a great consolation prize. Knight will need to do something meaningful soon because he’s too popular not to.

Carmelo Hayes

Last, but not least, we have Carmelo Hayes. Hayes was drafted to Smackdown from NXT a couple of weeks ago. Hayes lost his first match against Cody Rhodes, and it seems like a feud with Bobby Lashley is on the horizon. Hayes is one of their future stars and having a King gimmick could do wonders. We all remember Booker T and how he turned his King of the Ring win to King Bookah. King Bookah was one of the greatest gimmicks ever. I’m not saying Hayes could do the same thing but crowning him King of the Ring would be great moving forward.
