The Boston Celtics will meet the Dallas Mavericks in the 2024 NBA Finals. Boston came into the playoffs as the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference. The Celtics were favorite to come out of the East at the beginning of the season. They began their run by defeating the Miami Heat in five games. The Celtics defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in five games to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. Boston swept the Indiana Pacers to reach their second NBA Finals in three years. The Dallas Mavericks had a much tougher path to the NBA Finals than the Celtics. First off, they are the 5th seed in the Western Conference and they upset the Clippers in the first round. In the second round, they took down the top seeded Oklahoma City Thunder. They beat the Thunder by one point in Game 6 to advance to the Western Conference Finals.
Dallas defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games to advance to the NBA Finals. This will be the 3rd overall appearance for the Mavericks in the NBA Finals. This will be their first since winning the championship in 2011 when Coach Jason Kidd was the point guard. This matchup has the makings of being an all-time classic NBA Finals series. Can Tatum and Brown finally bring a championship to Boston and the franchises 18th? Will Luka and Kyrie continue to produce magic with their great supporting cast? Will Kristaps Porzingis be healthy and make a difference in this series? Who wins in the 2024 NBA Finals and takes home the Larry O’Brien Trophy?
Boston Celtics
Boston opened the season as the favorites to win the NBA championship this season. The Celtics basically cruised through the Eastern Conference by finishing with a 12-2 record. There have been many that have said that key injuries in the East lead to their run. Boston was without Kristaps Porzingis for the most part of their run. Porzingis could be back, and this would be a major boost for the Celtics. The Celtics will also have a bevy of defenders to throw at Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, and Jaylen Brown are all top tier defenders. They also can get scoring from Tatum, Brown, Porzingis (if healthy), White, Holiday and Horford. Can Boston finally win their first championship in the Tatum and Brown era? If not, what would happen to this team that’s poised to win a championship?
Dallas Mavericks
Many people believed Dallas would be good, but we didn’t see them making an NBA Finals appearance. We didn’t know how Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving would co-exist. The Mavericks made a pair of trades to bring in P.J. Washington and Daniel Gafford. Those were the pieces needed to complete this team and get them to this point now. Luka has shown that he’s arguably the best player in the world. When the NBA critics wanted to ban Irving, he showed that he’s as good a teammate you’ll find. Coach Jason Kidd has proven to naysayers that he’s one of the best coaches in the league. How will Dallas handle the likes of Tatum, Brown, and Porzingis? Whoever will step up for the Mavericks seeing Luka and Kyrie will command a lot of attention. Can the Mavs pull off another upset and win the franchise’s second championship?
Who Leaves the 2024 NBA Finals as Champions?
Kyrie has talked about how he wished things were different with his Boston run. The fans will be on him throughout the series and he’s more than capable of handling it. Luka is on another planet right now. After finishing third in the MVP voting, Doncic has been terrorizing opposing defenses. How will the likes of Gafford and Lively II handle the interior for the Mavs? Dallas will need some help in the form of Hardaway Jr., Washington and others against this Celtics team. Will Boston finally hoist their first trophy in over 15 years? We know about Tatum and Brown, but the Celtics have other weapons. Derrick White, Jrue Holiday, and Al Horford will need to come up huge on both ends of the floor. How healthy will Porzingis be? This has the makings of an all-time classic and I’m picking the Celtics to win. Boston Win Series 4-3
