The Atlanta Falcons have made a lot of changes throughout the offseason. After finishing 8-9 last season, they fired their Coach Arthur Smith. Atlanta hired Raheem Morris, and he has always been a great defensive coach. The Falcons took a chance by signing Kirk Cousins to a massive 4-year deal to come to Atlanta. To many, the Falcons were a quarterback away from competing in the NFC. Will Kirk Cousins be enough to put Atlanta over the hill? They are already my pick to win the NFC South this season, but how do they rank in the NFC? A couple of months ago they didn’t crack my top 5 NFC teams, will they now? Are they Super Bowl Contenders?

Offense

Kyle Pitts was sought after a few years ago during the draft process. Unfortunately, he hasn’t lived up to those lofty expectations, but it’s not his fault. Kirk Cousins is a major upgrade to the quarterback position, and he’ll reap the benefits. Atlanta got a nice receiving core and Drake London could become a superstar in the process. Bijan Robinson is one of the better running backs in the league heading into his second year. Tyler Allgeier is a great back also, making him and Robinson one of the better 1-2 punches. Kirk Cousins is an aging quarterback and he’s coming off an Achilles injury. Atlanta drafted Michael Penix Jr. and he’s their future at the quarterback position. If all goes well, the Falcons could have one of the better offenses in the league.

Defense

The big issue the Falcons faced for quite a few years was the absence of a pass rusher. They didn’t address it in the NFL Draft, and it left a lot of heads being scratched. They traded for Matthew Judon from the Patriots yesterday. Judon is a 4-time Pro Bowler, and he immediately propels the defense to a top tier one. Jessie Bates III paid off massive dividends in his first season with the Falcons last season. Unfortunately, they lost Richie Grant in the first preseason game for the year with a torn ACL. They did host Justin Simmons a few days ago, but with the trade of Judon we don’t know their cap space. Grady Jarrett coming back from his ACL injury will help their interior line. As of now, the Falcons defense can help this team to make a Super Bowl run.

Are the Atlanta Falcons Super Bowl contenders?

The biggest issue with a potential Super Bowl run is their offensive line. Atlanta and their offensive line have been one issue and Kirk Cousins can’t move in the pocket. Despite the issues with their offensive line, the Falcons are Super Bowl contenders in the NFC. I’d put them over the Cowboys and Packers as of now. I’m still hesitant to put them above the Eagles, Niners and Lions.
