The NFL season is just a week and a halfway from the beginning of the year. In the 2024 NFL Draft, there were six quarterbacks drafted in the first round. Those six drafted quarterbacks were picked in the first 12 selections of the first round. We all knew that Caleb Williams would be selected as the first pick by the Chicago Bears. The Bears traded Justin Fields to make room for Williams. Jayden Daniels would go second to the Washington Commanders. Drake Maye followed by being selected third overall to the New England Patriots. The Atlanta Falcons surprised a lot of people by selecting Michael Penix Jr. with the 8th overall selection. J.J. McCarthy from Michigan went 10th to the Vikings. With the 12th pick of the 2024 NFL Draft the Denver Broncos selected Bo Nix. How will the rookie quarterbacks fare in the 2024 season?

Caleb Williams

How Will the Rookie Quarterbacks Fare in the 2024 Season?

There’s a reason Caleb Williams was the top pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. Williams is looked at as a generational talent and he displayed a lot of that during preseason. Chicago has surrounded him with a lot more talent for him than they did with Justin Fields. The Bears have one of the best receiving cores by trading for Kennan Allen and drafting Rome Odunze. D.J. Moore is one of the best receivers in the league and they rewarded him with a nice contract extension. Caleb is my frontrunner for Offensive Rookie of the Year this season. Having a great running back like D’Andre Swift will be great for him also. I’m expecting them to compete with Green Bay and Detroit in the NFC North this season. I’m seeing the Bears possibly making the playoffs this year.

Jayden Daniels

Jayden Daniels was the Heisman Trophy winner last season for the LSU Tigers. Daniels can beat you with his arm and legs. This is one of the many reasons why he was drafted second overall. Washington had so much faith in him that they traded away Sam Howell. Daniels will be the starter heading into the season for Washington. The Commanders are bringing in an entire new coaching staff along with Daniels. Washington finished last in my NFC East predictions for this season. Jayden Daniels will make some amazing plays during the season but will show signs he’s a rookie. Washington is still in the running for Brandon Aiyuk, which would be great for him. Daniels will have a good season as the Commanders try to build for the future.

Drake Maye

How Will the Rookie Quarterbacks Fare in the 2024 Season?

Drake Maye was selected with the third overall pick by the New England Patriots. Drake Maye has the size and arm, which is one of the reasons he was the third QB selected. New England is still trying to find themselves this season. Bill Belichick is gone and now they have Jerrod Mayo as the new coach. The Patriots play in a tough division and I’m predicting them to finish last in the AFC East. The Patriots are lacking a true #1 receiver for Maye to throw to. Drake Maye will go through growing pains this season and it will be rough in New England. Maye will show signs of growth, but being in a tough division and a difficult schedule will wear on him.

Michael Penix Jr.

How Will the Rookie Quarterbacks Fare in the 2024 Season?

Michael Penix Jr. Had an amazing two years in Washington after spending time in Indiana. Penix Jr. being selected with the 8th overall pick was a surprise by everyone. Atlanta was high on him, especially Coach Raheem Morris which is why the Falcons made the move. Kirk Cousins is projected to be the starter this season after signing a free agent deal with the Falcons. Atlanta could have instances where he’s used, but he won’t be the starter for at least a couple of years. If Cousins were to get injured would probably be the reason why he’d start this season. With or without Penix Jr. starting, the Falcons are my pick to win the NFC South this season.

J.J. McCarthy

J.J. McCarthy was selected with the 10th overall pick by the Minnesota Vikings. McCarthy came off an undefeated season at Michigan, which resulted in them winning the national championship. Minnesota signed Sam Darnold to a one-year deal prior to drafting McCarthy. Minnesota has one of the best receivers in the league, which is why they signed him to a huge extension. The Vikings were picked to finish last in the NFC North predictions this season. Unfortunately, McCarthy tore his meniscus in his knee and will miss the entire 2024 season. We all wish J.J. McCarthy the best as he recovers from knee surgery.

Bo Nix

Last, but not least we have Bo Nix who was drafted by the Denver Broncos with the 12th pick. The Broncos released Russell Wilson as his time in Denver was obviously over. Nix was drafted, but Denver brought in other signal callers to compete with him. While still having Jarrett Stidham, the Broncos traded for embattled QB Zach Wilson from the New York Jets. All three had an opportunity for the starting position during the preseason. Bo Nix was named the starter after an impressive preseason. Denver could keep Wilson as a backup and trade Stidham, who believes he’s a starting quarterback. Bo Nix will have a good season for Denver as he’s one of the more accurate quarterbacks you’ll see. They are predicted to finish last in the AFC West this season according to my projections.
