Week 3 is in the books, and we have a new number one team in the nation, and they are the Texas Longhorns. Texas jumped over the Georgia Bulldogs after they barely beat Kentucky 13-12. The Longhorns blew out UTSA, despite Quinn Ewers going down with an injury and Arch Manning filling in for him. My Week 3 college football picks garnered me a 5-0 record, which boosted my overall mark to 9-1. There were no major upsets last weekend. Alabama went to Wisconsin and showed why they’re one of the best teams in the country by blowing out the Badgers. In the game of the week, LSU scored with a minute remaining to defeat South Carolina in a nail biter. This week I’ll be picking another six games. Check out Trav’s Week 4 college football picks below.
We kick things off again on a Friday night with two ranked teams facing off. The 24th ranked Illinois Fighting Illini will head to Nebraska to face the 22nd ranked Huskers. Illinois started the season with a 3-0 record. The big win came when they took down then 19th ranked Kansas. Illinois has done this because they have a stingy defense. The defense is giving up less than 9 points a game so far. Can they continue that trend? It feels like Nebraska as a program is starting to come back. Dylan Raiola has lit a fire under this offense and team altogether. The defense is giving up less than seven points a game and they held Colorado to 10 points. This could be a defensive game, but the Huskers offense is a little better than the Illini. Nebraska Win 24-17
We have the 11th ranked USC Trojans making the cross country trip to Ann Arbor to face the 18th ranked Michigan Wolverines. USC began their season with a great win over LSU 27-20. This will be the first game for the Trojans as part of the Big Ten Conference. Miller Moss has thrown for over 600 yards in two games. The defense has gotten off to a great start this season. Can the Trojans get the win in the Big House? Michigan hasn’t looked like the defending champions in none of their three games. The defense will be tested by the speedy offense of the Trojans. The Wolverines can’t afford to fall to 2-2 with their remaining schedule. Can this offense finally get back on track against a tough opponent? I’m riding with the Trojans to leave Ann Arbor with the win over Michigan. USC Win 27-17
We have the 6th ranked Tennessee Volunteers heading to Oklahoma to face off with the 15th ranked Sooners. Tennessee has beaten their first three opponents by a combined score of 191-3. In their second game, they defeated then 24th ranked N.C. State 51-10. Nico Iamaleava has looked like one of the best quarterbacks in the country thus far. The running game has been the best in the country. The Vols are averaging over 336 yards per game on the ground, which is first in the country. This is the first game for the Oklahoma Sooners as a member of the SEC. The Sooners started off the season with a 48 point win but haven’t looked the same. Jackson Arnold has been their offense whether it’s with his arms or legs. The Vols will be too much for the Sooners and I’m expecting them to win. Tennessee Win 34-24
We have a matchup between two top 15 teams that belong to the Big 12 Conference. The 12th ranked Utah Utes will head to Stillwater to face the 14th ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys. The Utes are a new member of the Big 12 Conference. Utah has always been a physical team on the defensive side of the ball. They have given up an average of 11 points through the first three games. Can the Utes pick up the huge win on the road? Oklahoma State always has one of the most explosive offenses every year. After three games, they are in the top 10 in scoring and passing. The only good win they have was against the Arkansas Razorbacks. This could be a trap game for the Cowboys seeing they have to go to Kansas State next weekend. I’m going with the Cowboys to win. Oklahoma State Win 30-28
We have the 13th ranked Kansas State Wildcats traveling to Provo to face the BYU Cougars. The Wildcats are coming off an impressive win against Arizona last week Friday. Kansas State does most of their damage on offense with the run game. They average over 240 yards a game, which puts them in the top 20 in the country. The defense isn’t too bad either after they held Arizona to only 7 points. Will they leave Provo still undefeated? BYU has moved over to the Big 12 Conference, and this is their first game. They come into this game undefeated. Jake Retziaff accounts for most of their offense. The Cougars average a little under 290 yards through the air and 151 on the ground. The Wildcats will look to stop Retziaff on the ground and air. I’m going with the upset in this Saturday Night game. BYU Win 26-24
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will travel to Louisville to face the 19th ranked Cardinals. The Yellow Jackets come into this game with a 3-1 record. They surprised everyone with their win over Florida State in the first game of the year. The Seminoles are 0-3 and the Yellow Jackets other two wins were against inferior teams. They fell on the road to Syracuse a couple weeks ago. Who is the real Georgia Tech team? Louisville is ranked 19th in the country, but they haven’t had a real opponent yet. Austin Peay and Jacksonville State were the teams they have played thus far. Louisville will have issues trying to slow down Haynes King seeing he’s a quarterback that can run. Louisville will try to get their first ACC win and hand the Jackets their second loss. I’m riding with the Cardinal to win this one. Louisville Win 31-27
