Week 2 is in the books and what a week it was. This was my worse week of picks I’ve ever had in the many years I’ve been doing it. My Week 2 picks garnered a 2-8 record and my overall mark collapses to 13-13. My winning percentage drops from 68.8% all the way down to 50%. The Buffalo Bills blowing out the Miami Dolphins was my first loss. In the loss, the Dolphins loss Tua to a concussion as he’s one of the key injuries thus far this season. New Orleans going to Dallas to embarrass the Cowboys was my second defeat. Baker Mayfield and the Bucs became my third defeat when they defeated the Lions in a playoff rematch. In another surprise, Minnesota took down the defending NFC champion San Francisco 49ers. Seattle defeated New England in OT, and my pick was for the Patriots to upset Seattle.
Cleveland took down the Jacksonville Jaguars in a battle of championship winning quarterbacks from Clemson. In my seventh consecutive loss, the Raiders upset the Ravens in their home opener. My final and 8th loss came on Monday night when the Falcons came from behind to defeat Philadelphia in the final minutes. Kansas City beating Cincinnati and Houston defeating Chicago were my only wins in Week 2. This week I’ll be predicting another 10 games. Let’s see if things go a little better than last week.
We have a battle between two AFC East teams with 1-1 records. The New England Patriots make the trip to New York to battle the Jets. The Patriots are coming off a tough loss in overtime to Seattle in their home opener. The offense had a tough time getting into a rhythm against the Seahawks defense. The defense was great against the run, but Seattle’s passing game was efficient. How will they fare against Aaron Rodgers and Garrett Wilson? New York picked up their first win in Tennessee this past weekend. Rodgers and the offense had a tough time getting on track against the Titans defense. On defense, the Jets are dealing with several key injuries. How will the defense respond to the countless injuries against the New England offense? I’m going with New York to find a way to win this Thursday night game. Jets Win 27-17
We have a battle between two 2-0 teams as the Houston Texans head to Minnesota to face the Vikings. The Texans opened their season with two close victories over the Colts and Bears. Houston is one of those teams that’s expected to challenge Kansas City in the AFC this season. Joe Mixon is expected to miss some time after injuring his ankle due to the banned hip drop tackle. Will the Texans find a run game to go against the Vikings defense? Minnesota is a surprising 2-0 after they pulled off the upset of the 49ers last weekend. Unfortunately, Justin Jefferson is dealing with a quad contusion after colliding with Fred Warner. Sam Darnold looked great, and the defense is outstanding also. How will Sam Darnold handle the pressure the Texans defense will come at him with? I’m going with Houston in a close one. Texans Win 23-21
The Philadelphia Eagles will head to New Orleans to face the hottest team in the league in the Saints. The Eagles come into this game after giving away the Monday night game to the Falcons. Everything that could have gone wrong did and now we get to see how they respond. Philadelphia will be without A.J. Brown for the second consecutive game as he’s dealing with a hamstring injury. Can this defense stop the run and put pressure on Derek Carr? New Orleans is the most talked about team in the league after two weeks. After putting up 47 points on Carolina in Week 1, they go to Dallas and score 44 in a rout. The defense has given up 29 points in those two games combined. New Orleans should have their way with the Eagles on both sides of the ball. Saints Win 34-21
The Los Angeles Chargers make the cross country trip to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers in a battle of 2-0 teams. Jim Harbaugh has gotten off to a 2-0 start with the Chargers and it’s due to physicality. The run game is second in the league with almost 200 yards a game on the ground. The defense is giving up less than seven points a game, which puts them first in scoring. On the flipside, the Steelers defense ranks second in scoring by allowing only 8 points a game. The offense isn’t producing a lot, but they are not making mistakes either. The run game ranks 12th, while the passing offense is in the bottom third of the league. Is this type of offense sustainable for the long haul? I’m going with Los Angeles to pick up the road win in a low scoring game. Chargers Win 17-16
The Miami Dolphins will make that long trip to the Pacific Northwest to face the undefeated Seattle Seahawks. We all know about the unfortunate situation as Tua suffered another concussion last week against Buffalo. The results are that he’s been put on IR meaning he’ll miss at least four games. What does the future hold for Tua? Skylar Thompson will get the start, and the team signed Tyler Huntley to be his backup. What will this offense look like? Seattle is coming off two close wins over the Broncos and Patriots. Are the Seahawks that good or did they just play two bad teams? This game against the Dolphins will be a test for both sides of the ball. Geno Smith is coming off throwing for over 300 yards against the Patriots. In a good game, I’m going with the home team to beat the backup QB. Seahawks Win 24-17
We have a matchup between two teams that are in need of winning this game. The 0-2 Baltimore Ravens head to Dallas to face the 1-1 Cowboys. Baltimore dropped their first game of the season in Kansas City in a close one. In their home opener against Las Vegas, they fell to the Raiders. The Ravens are ranked in the top seven when it comes to their pass and rush offense. The defense is in the bottom five when it comes to points allowed. Dallas is coming off an embarrassing loss in the home opener against New Orleans. The defense was exposed after giving up 44 points. Dak tossed a pair of INTs, and the run didn’t exist because they were playing from behind. Whichever team loses, there will be a lot of questions and I’m picking Baltimore to win. Ravens Win 30-24
The Detroit Lions will make that trip to Arizona to face off against the Cardinals. The Lions fell to the Bucs in a playoff rematch from their Divisional Round game a year ago. Jared Goff didn’t throw a touchdown pass but was able to toss a couple of INTs. They will need to get David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs going on the ground. On the defensive side of the ball, Aiden Hutchinson has become one of the best pass rushers in the league. Arizona looked great in their first two games of the season. They fell to Buffalo in the opener on the road, but almost pulled off the upset. They decimated the Rams last weekend, but the Rams have two of the key players injured in Nacua and Kupp. This should be a good game, but I’m picking Detroit to win. Lions Win 28-24
We have the Sunday Night game as the Kansas City Chiefs venture to Atlanta to face off against the Falcons. The Chiefs are on a mission to become the first team ever to 3-peat in the Super Bowl era. They edged the Ravens and Bengals in their first two games. They will be without Isiah Pacheco for a while after being put on IR due to his fractured fibula. They signed Kareem Hunt, which is vital because they will need a run game against this tough Atlanta defense. Atlanta is coming off an impressive Monday Night win in Philadelphia. Bijan Robinson got the ball rolling which opened their passing game. The Chiefs pass rush against Kirk Cousins will be better than the one they saw on Monday. This will be a tough one, but I’m picking Kansas City to edge the Falcons. Chiefs Win 20-19
We have the first of two Monday Night games as the Jacksonville Jaguars head to Buffalo to face the Bills. Jacksonville is still looking for their first win of the season. The offense can’t get going whether it’s the run or passing game. They are averaging only 15 points a game, which puts them 27th in the league. What is wrong with Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars offense? Can the defense contain Josh Allen to allow the offense to put points on the board? Josh Allen and the offense are still trying to work in their new receiving core. James Cook has been amazing running the ball as he’s averaging five yards a gain. The defense looked much better in their win over Miami. Josh Allen is looking to make an MVP run as Buffalo goes 3-0. Bills Win 30-17
The Washington Commanders head to Cincinnati to face the Bengals in the second Monday Night game. The Commanders picked up their first win last week over the New York Giants. Jayden Daniels has looked good, but still hasn’t tossed a touchdown pass in his young career. Washington is doing the most offensive damage on the ground. Brian Robinson is off to a great start as the Commanders are 6th in rushing. Unfortunately, the defense ranks in the bottom four for points allowed. Cincinnati dropped to 0-2 after last weekend’s heartbreaking loss in Kansas City. They are 1-9 in Weeks 1-2 since Zac Taylor became the coach. Will Tee Higgins make his season debut? The Bengals are one of the worse rushing teams in the NFL. Cincinnati should rebound and find a way to get their first win. Bengals Win 26-20
