Luka made his emotional return to Dallas last night. Doncic made his return to the place he played 6.5 seasons before being traded. The Luka for Anthony Davis trade still is being talked about around the league. Doncic was honored by his former franchise with a lengthy tribute video during player introductions. As the videoboard flashed an amazing array of basketball highlights showed why he became one of the most beloved figures in Dallas sports history.

Luka didn’t just play, but he dominated the Mavs. Luka finished with 45 points, which tied his season high. Los Angeles won 112-97 to clinch a playoff berth for the Lakers. The 45 points scored by Luka is a painful reminder for every Mavericks fan in attendance. Luka checked and his Lakers teammates who swarmed him and chanted along with the “Luka! Luka!” cacophony from the crowd. Throughout the night, when the Lakers went to the free throw line, loud “Fire Nico!” chants echoed throughout American Airlines Center. The arena was filled with Luka’s number 77 jersey. After the final buzzer, Doncic made his way around the court, hugging his former teammates as well as Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and Mavericks superfan Patrick Mahomes, his parents and Davis.
