Week 1 is in the books and there were a lot of headlines during the opening week of NFL action. The Eagles defeated the Cowboys to open the season 24-20. Jalen Carter was ejected for spitting on Dak Prescott before the game started and he received a $57,222 fine. The Los Angeles Chargers defeated Kansas City in Brazil with Justin Herbert putting on a masterful performance. My Week 1 prediction garnered an 11-5 record and a winning percentage of 68.75. As always, my goal is to finish with a winning percentage of 70% or higher. My first loss came when the Chargers defeated the Chiefs in the game in Brazil. The Indianapolis Colts dominated the Miami Dolphins in their home opener was my second loss. The Las Vegas Raiders went to New England and handed a loss in dominating fashion for my third loss.

The fourth loss came when the Buffalo Bills made a miraculous comeback to beat Baltimore 41-40. Josh Allen showed why he was league MVP a season ago and will try to go back to back. The fifth and final loss came on another comeback, and this was by the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings and JJ McCarthy won 27-24 after being down 17-6. The Thursday Night game is a battle between two teams that could see each other in the playoffs. The Washington Commanders head to Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers. The Commanders are hoping to capitalize on their success from a year ago. Washington defeated NFC East rival New York Giants in their season opener. The defense held the Giants offense to only six points. Are the Commanders defense that good or were the Giants offense that bad? Green Bay dominated in their win over the Detroit Lions. The offense came out on fire scoring at will in the first half. The defense looked like one of the best in the league. Was the defense that good or will Detroit have growing pains without Ben Johnson calling the plays? I’m thinking Green Bay will continue their winning ways in the close one against Washington. Packers Win 27-21

The Jacksonville Jaguars head north to Cincinnati to battle the Bengals. The Jaguars beat down the Carolina Panthers in their home opener. Jacksonville is looking to avenge an embarrassing season a year ago. They brought in Liam Coen to be their new head coach and hopefully get Trevor Lawrence back on track. The defense of the Jaguars pressured Bryce Young all day long. How will this Jaguars defense hold up against Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati offense? Cincinnati won their opener also, but the offense didn’t put up huge number as expected. The Bengals won 17-16 and Joe Burrow didn’t even throw for 115 yards. The Bengals defense held the Browns offense to 16 points, but how will they hold up against Jacksonville? In a battle of former No. 1 picks, this should be a close game and I’m taking the home team. Bengals Win 31-27

In an NFC East battle, the New York Giants will travel to Dallas to battle the Cowboys. Both teams lost their first game of the season. New York only put up six points in their opener against Washington. Russell Wilson is on a short leash seeing that rookie, Jaxson Dart, is lurking behind him. The Giants offense looked horrible against Washington. The Giants defense did their best against one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Can they rebound from the defeat? Dallas also fell in their opener when they visited the Eagles in Week 1. Dak and the offense looked great for the most part but had some key drops and a turnover. The defense showed up also as they slowed down Saquon Barkley for most of the game. Both teams need this win and I’m picking Dallas to pick up their first win. Cowboys Win 27-17

The Chicago Bears will head to Detroit to battle the Lions. Chicago and Detroit both fell in their first games of the season. The Bears lost at home to the Vikings 27-24. Chicago jumped out to the lead against Minnesota before falling in the end. Ben Johnson makes his return to Detroit. Johnson had the Lions offense looking like the second coming of “The Greatest Show on Turf”. Johnson is now the Head Coach of the Chicago Bears with the hopes of returning them to prominence. Detroit was dominated on both sides of the ball by the Green Bay Packers. It was just one game, and this Lions team was one of my top 5 NFC teams heading into the new season. Which team will rebound from their loss? I’m picking Detroit to play better at home. Lions Win 34-27

The Los Angeles Rams will make that cross country trip to Tennessee to meet the Titans. Los Angeles began the season with a tough win at home against Houston. The offense is still a work in progress with Stafford not being active throughout the preseason. Davante Adams is still getting used to his new offense. The defense frustrated and pressure C.J. Stroud the entire day. The Rams are hoping to be 2-0 when they head to Philadelphia to battle the Eagles next week. Tennessee fell to the Denver Broncos on the road in their first game. The Titans suffered from dropped passes after No. 1 pick Cam Ward had a solid game. The defense stifled the Broncos offense throughout the game. I’m thinking the Titans will be tougher this season but won’t translate to wins. Rams Win 24-17

The New England Patriots will head south to Miami to face the Dolphins. Both teams fell in their season openers last week. New England lost their game at home after Geno Smith ripped their defense apart. The Patriots are expected to be a much improved team this season. Will some home cooking do the job for Mike Vrabel and his squad? Will the Patriots defense be able to slow down the speedy Dolphins offense? Miami looked horrible in their loss in Indianapolis to the Colts. Both sides of the ball were dominated and if it continues, we could see changes in the organization. Will Tua and the offense rebound and have a better game? Can the Dolphins defense pressure Drake Maye? I’m still high on this Miami team and think they will pull out the win. Dolphins Win 27-21

The San Francisco 49ers will head south to New Orleans to take on the Saints. San Francisco won their first game of the season, but it was costly. George Kittle went down with a hamstring injury and was put on IR as a result. Brock Purdy is also injured and could miss time with a toe and shoulder injury. Christian McCaffrey will need to put on his Superman cape for this one because they could rely on him. New Orleans fell in their home opener against the Arizona Cardinals. I’ve said that the Saints don’t have a legitimate No. 1 quarterback on their roster, and it could be their downfall. New Orleans still has a solid defense, but it doesn’t mean anything if the offense can score points. New Orleans will find some way to win this game against the Niners. Saints Win 16-13

We have a battle of New York between a pair of AFC East foes. The Buffalo Bills will make the trip to the Meadowlands to face the New York Jets. Buffalo is coming off one of the more impressive come from behind wins over Baltimore. The 41-40 win was guided by Josh Allen after the Bills trailed 40-25. The Bills offense is talked about a lot and deservedly so, but the defense was manhandled throughout the game. Can they step up against Justin Fields and the Jets? Speaking of the Jets, the debut of Justin Fields was amazing and as predicted, the running game will benefit from him. Can this Jets defense find a way to slow down the Bills offense after giving up 34 points to Pittsburgh? This could be a high scoring game and I’m riding with Buffalo to win again. Bills Win 31-27

The Seattle Seahawks make the cross country trip to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers. Seattle fell in their home opener against the Niners. The Seahawks offense has new pieces that they’re trying to get used to. Geno Smith was traded to Las Vegas, and they signed Sam Darnold to become their new quarterback. D.K. Metcalf was traded, and Tyler Lockett was let go, so this offense must find itself. The defense showed promise in their game against San Francisco. The Steelers offense with Aaron Rodgers at the helm looked amazing in Week 1. Rodgers threw for four touchdowns and the offense looked in sync. The defense was ran all over on by Justin Fields and the Jets offense. Can they rebound at home against this Seattle team? I’m picking Pittsburgh to go 2-0 after this one. Steelers Win 27-17

The Cleveland Browns are heading into Baltimore to take on the Ravens. The Browns fell to the Bengals in their season opener, but the defense looked great. The Browns defense held the powerful Bengals offense to only 17 points. Cleveland and their offense only put up 16 points after the run game was nonexistent. Cleveland should have Quinshon Judkins for this game, and the rookie should help with their running attack. Can the Browns upset the Ravens? Baltimore had a disappointing loss in Buffalo after having a 15 point lead. Baltimore is still my top AFC team coming into this new season. The Ravens defense was dominated by Allen and the Bills offense. Can they turn things around against this Browns team? I’m thinking Baltimore will be out for revenge and make a statement in this one. Ravens Win 38-24

The Denver Broncos will make the trip to Indianapolis to take on the Colts. Denver is expected to make some noise in the AFC this season. The Broncos are one of my top 5 AFC teams heading into the new season. In their win against Tennessee last week, Bo Nix tossed a couple of INTs and threw for under 180 yards. The Broncos defense was everything we thought it would be after they frustrated Cam Ward the entire game. Indianapolis was one of the most surprising teams in Week 1. The Colts destroyed the Miami Dolphins 33-8. Daniel Jones looked amazing, and the defense forced Tua into throwing two picks. Can both sides of the ball repeat their stellar performances from last week? This is a tough matchup, but I’m still on the Denver bandwagon for this season and think they’ll win. Broncos Win 21-17

The Carolina Panthers will head west to Arizona to take on the Cardinals. The Panthers began their season with a disappointing loss in Jacksonville. Bryce Young tossed a couple of INTs in the loss. The Panthers defense allowed 143 yards on the ground from Travis Etienne Jr. Carolina will have to worry about the ground game of Arizona and their swarming defense. Will Bryce Young and the Panthers bounce back from their opening game loss? Arizona began the season with a win on the road against the New Orleans Saints.  Kyler Murray was efficient and didn’t commit any turnovers. The Cardinals defense gave up over 300 yards of total offense to the Saints. Arizona is hoping to enter San Francisco next week with a 2-0 record. I’m thinking Arizona will take care of business against the Panthers this weekend. Cardinals Win 31-20

We have the Super Bowl rematch as the Philadelphia Eagles head to Arrowhead to face the Kansas City Chiefs. These teams have met four times in the last four seasons, which included a couple of Super Bowls. The series is tied at two after the Eagles blew out the Chiefs in the last Super Bowl. Philadelphia is coming off, winning their home opener against the Cowboys. Jalen Carter will play his first game of the season after being ejected before the opening kickoff. Kansas City lost their first game of the season to the Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil. Justin Herbert decimated the defense with over 300 yards in the air and the winning play to seal the win. Can the Eagles go into Arrowhead and have the Chiefs start the season 0-2? I’m picking Kansas City to win the Super Bowl rematch. Chiefs Win 24-23

We have the Sunday Night game as the Atlanta Falcons travel to Minnesota to battle the Vikings. The Falcons dropped their opening game at home to division rival Tampa Bay. Atlanta had their game won against Tampa but gave up a 39-yard touchdown pass with less than two minutes remaining. The Falcons defense held the Bucs offense in check for most of the game. The health of Drake London will be a concern for the Falcons in this game and moving forward. On the other hand, the Minnesota Vikings came from behind to beat the Bears on Monday Night. JJ McCarthy was a nonfactor in the first three quarters but turned things up in the end. With this being the Vikings home opener, the crowd will be electric on Sunday Night. I’m going with Atlanta to find a way to pull off the upset. Falcons Win 26-24

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will head to Houston to battle the Texans in the first Monday Night game. Tampa Bay escaped Atlanta with a 23-20 win after Koo missed the field goal attempt as time expired. The Bucs will need to develop a running game moving forward if they want to have another successful season. On the other hand, the run defense was top tier against Bijan Robinson and the Falcons. Can the Bucs improve to 2-0 heading into Week 3? Houston is looking to avenge their Week 1 loss against the Rams. Stroud threw for less than 200 yards and they were only able to put up nine points. Nick Chubb did look good in his Texans debut, but Nico Collins can’t have 3 catches for 25 yards. The stout Houston defense will be the key in this one as they win against Tampa. Texans Win 24-20

The final game of the week and second Monday Night game is a battle between two 1-0 AFC West teams. The Los Angeles Chargers will visit Las Vegas to take on the Raiders. Justin Herbert began the season with an impressive 3 TD and 318 yards through the air in a win over Kansas City. Herbert had the key run on 3^rd down to seal the 27-21 win for the Chargers. The Chargers defense was great against the run seeing Mahomes led the game on the ground. Las Vegas began their season on the road with a win over New England. Geno Smith threw for over 360 yards in the win, but the running game will need to improve. The Raiders defense has a tougher task trying to stop the Chargers offense. I’m picking Los Angeles to win in the Week 2 finale. Chargers Win 31-21
