It’s finally here, Super Bowl LIX is upon us. The Kansas City Chiefs will face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. This is a rematch of Super Bowl LVII when the Chiefs prevailed 38-35 over the Eagles. Kansas City took down the Buffalo Bills in an epic AFC Championship game 32-29. On the NFC side, the Eagles dismantled the Commanders 55-23 to advance to Super Bowl LIX. My AFC and NFC Championship game picks had the Chiefs battling the Commanders. Kansas City is looking to become the first team to pull off a 3-peat. Two years ago, they beat this Eagles team and they defeat the 49ers in a classic last season. Philadelphia is looking to get revenge for their loss a couple years ago. This will be the second Super Bowl appearance for Jalen Hurts in three years. Check out my Super Bowl LIX prediction below.
Offense
Quarterback
We have a battle between a couple of dynamic quarterbacks. Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts are two of the best quarterbacks in the league. Patrick Mahomes is looking to win his 4th Super Bowl of his career. Jalen Hurts is still seeking his first Super Bowl win. Mahomes is already climbing the ranks of being one of the greatest QBs of all time. With the win, Mahomes would tie Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana with four rings. Hurts have excelled by not turning the ball over in the last few months. Both are great when it comes to using their legs, but Hurts are a little better. When it comes to throwing, Mahomes has been there and done that. Both quarterbacks are great at what they do, but Mahomes will get the edge in this one. Advantage: Kansas City Chiefs
Running Backs
When the Eagles signed Saquon Barkley in the offseason, we knew this could be magical. All Saquon did was rush for over 2000 yards and become an NFL MVP finalist. Barkley became the ninth running back in NFL history to reach that feat. Many thought he would challenge Eric Dickerson’s record of 2105 yards, but the team sat him in the season finale. Kenneth Gainwell has had an amazing season for the Eagles also. Kansas City got the duo of Kareem Hunt and Isaiah Pacheco. Hunt is a tough and gritty runner that’s great for ground and pound. Pacheco is also a punishing runner but hasn’t been the same since coming back from his knee injury. Pacheco was vital in their first win over Philadelphia in Super Bowl LVII. Saquon has been the best back this season and the Eagles have this advantage. Advantage: Philadelphia Eagles
Receiving Core
Both teams have elite receiving corps. The Chiefs group consists of Hollywood Brown, DeAndre Hopkins, Juju Smith-Schuster, and Xavier Worthy. Travis Kelce and Noah Gray at the tight end position. Hopkins and Brown can still give opposing corners fits. Smith-Schuster is having a nice playoff run and he mocked the Eagles after they won two years ago. Xavier Worthy is as fast as any receiver in the league. Travis Kelce is still a matchup nightmare, and Noah Gray is becoming a quality tight end in this league. A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are two of the best WRs in the league. They showed in the NFC title game they can explode when needed. Dallas Goedert is one of the more underrated tight ends and has been for years now. The Eagles don’t use their other weapons very often and that’s why the Chiefs get the advantage. Advantage: Kansas City Chiefs
Offensive Line
Both offensive lines are great at protecting the quarterbacks. Kansas City has made it a point of protecting Mahomes after losing the Super Bowl to Tampa Bay years ago. The offensive line was exploited and Mahomes ran for his life the entire game. The Houston Texans were able to get pressure on Mahomes throughout the game in the Divisional Round. The Eagles possess one of the better defensive lines in the league. With the Eagles, they continue to be one of the best offensive lines in the league. They protect Jalen Hurts as well as any offensive line for their quarterback in the league. Saquon Barkley was able to run for 2000 yards due to how great the Eagles line is. To be honest, they all play at an All-Pro level, which is why they get the advantage. Advantage: Philadelphia Eagles
Defense
Defensive Line
Both defensive lines are elite. This was said for Super Bowl LVIII between the Chiefs and Niners last year. Chris Jones is as good as any defensive lineman in the league. George Karlaftis is one of the more underrated pass rushers in the league. As a unit, the Chiefs defensive line can get pressure on the edges or up the middle. Are they better than the Eagles? Jalen Carter is in his second year, and you can make an argument that he’s already the best. Jordan Davis and Milton Williams are great linemen also who’s had great moments. Moro Ojomo has become their fourth defensive lineman to show potential. This game will be won in the trenches, and both are equipped for this. I’m going with the Eagles to have a slight advantage over the Chiefs. Advantage: Philadelphia Eagles
Linebackers
The linebacking core on both teams are reasons why both are great. Nick Bolton has been a key member of the defense for the last two years. Bolton is guy that caused Hurts to fumble in their previous Super Bowl these teams played. The strip sack and score were a pivotal part in that game. Drue Tranquill is another linebacker who could be a factor in this game. For years, the linebackers were one of the weaknesses for the Eagles. Zack Baun signed a 1-year deal for less than two million dollars and he turned into a Defensive Player of the Year candidate. Unfortunately, Nakobe Dean is hurt, but he’s had an amazing season. Oren Burks has replaced Dean and has done an amazing job. The Chiefs are great, but the Eagles may be a little better. Advantage: Philadelphia Eagles
Secondary
We head to the secondary, which is most likely the most difficult position. Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson are two of the better cornerbacks in the league. Justin Reid is one of the best safeties in the league. Kansas City is known for giving up the big play every now and then. Can they contain A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Dallas Goedert? They have experience in these big games and that could be the difference. The secondary was an issue when they met in the Super Bowl a couple of years ago. After drafting Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell, the secondary is as good as anyone in the league. Mitchell could be the Defensive Rookie of the Year and DeJean is also elite. Darius Slay is playing like the All-Pro he’s been during this run. The Eagles secondary is better than the Chiefs. Advantage: Philadelphia Eagles
Special Teams
Mecole Hardman is one of the fastest players in the league, but he’ll miss the game due to an injury. Skyy Moore could be available and he’s as dangerous as anyone in the league. Matt Araiza is one of the best punters in the league. Araiza has the foot and gives the Chiefs some field position advantages. Harrison Butker is one of the best field goal kickers in the league, but he missed time due to injury this season. Brandon Mann has done a great job for the Eagles this season. Jake Elliott had his fair share of struggles in the kicking game. With the uncertainty of Elliott, the Eagles may elect to go for it on the 4th and whatever. The Eagles continue to use Cooper DeJean or Isaiah Rodgers to return kicks for them. Advantage: Kansas City Chiefs
Who Wins Super Bowl LIX?
Will the Kansas City Chiefs become the first team ever to 3-Peat? Can Jalen Hurts finally lead the Eagles to their second championship? Kansas City was battle tested and only lost one meaningful game this season. Patrick Mahomes didn’t play like himself throughout the season, and they still were able to win. The defense has always found a way to make the right play at the right time. Andy Reid is one of the greatest coaches ever. With Philadelphia, they have answered the call all season and they are playing their best ball. Many people say they have the most complete team in the league. They are focused on finally bringing another championship to Philadelphia. It feels like they are a better team than the one that almost beat this Chiefs team. Like last year against the Niners, the Chiefs will find a way to win. Kansas City Win 31-30
